Learning Community Trust (LCT) schools across the region came together during the week commencing 12 January 2026 to take part in the annual LCT Attendance Week, an initiative designed to boost student attendance during a period that has traditionally seen a decline. Despite challenges including snow disruptions and seasonal illnesses such as chickenpox, the week achieved impressive results — and plenty of celebrations.
This year’s campaign saw schools unite to raise awareness of the importance of consistent attendance, with creative events, rewards, and community‑wide engagement across primary, secondary, specialist, and partner schools.
HLC Secures Secondary Attendance Title
HLC Secondary emerged as the overall secondary winner, with students celebrating their victory alongside Mr Roycroft, who presented vouchers and prizes to high‑attending pupils. Attendance Officer Mrs Cloughley proudly accepted the trophy on behalf of the school. HLC’s attendance is almost 1% higher than this time last year, reflecting continued improvement and the support of EWO colleagues Adrian and Kiran.
Primary Victory for Allscott Meads
Allscott Meads claimed the primary school trophy with a remarkable 99.7% attendance rate. To celebrate, pupils enjoyed a special Pyjama Party, complete with treats and Golden Ticket awards. The school’s enthusiasm and community spirit were widely praised.

Kickstart Academy Wins Specialist School Award
In the specialist category, Kickstart Academy took home the trophy after running a highly engaging programme that included free breakfasts and prize draws throughout the week. Their efforts contributed to a positive atmosphere that was enjoyed by pupils and staff alike.

New Road Academy Takes Outstanding Effort Trophy
The Outstanding Effort Award went to New Road Academy, recognised for their creative, multi‑year‑group approach to attendance advocacy. Pupils received surprise scratchcards on the Friday, revealing a range of prizes.
New Road also recorded a significant reduction in persistent absence — more than 7% lower than this time last year — thanks to ongoing support from Bobby, Dan and Dawn.
Old Park Primary Wins Non‑LCT Competition
In the non‑LCT category, Old Park Primary secured the top spot. Deputy Head Mr Clarke celebrated alongside his pupils, with EWO colleague, Kiran and Headteacher Mr. Foster expressing pride in the school’s hard work and commitment.
Burton Borough Shows Strong Performance
Although last year’s champions Burton Borough School did not retain their title, they still performed exceptionally well. Their January 2026 attendance is almost 1% higher than January 2025, reflecting consistent improvement. Staff showcased attendance expectations on screens and displays throughout the week to keep pupils motivated
A Week of Community, Celebration, and Progress
Across all participating schools, the week highlighted the ongoing commitment of staff, EWOs, pupils and families in promoting the value of education. The Trust expressed its appreciation for the high level of engagement and the creative efforts seen across the region.
