Students from a Telford school wowed the audience as they took to the stage as part of a live music showcase.
Two bands from New Road Academy in Wrockwardine Wood shone as they performed in the gig held at The Firefly in Oakengates, which was organised by Telford College and Telford & Wrekin Music.
Ben Millington, the school’s head of music and performing arts, said the event brought together young musicians from all over the region.
“Our students were absolutely outstanding. For some, this was their very first live gig, yet they performed with maturity, enthusiasm and real musical flair.
“It was wonderful to see them hold their own among older performers and represent the Academy with such pride. The positive comments from parents, carers and colleagues at Telford College reflect just how special the evening was. We are incredibly proud of every student involved.”
The New Road Academy performers were a Year 9 group making their debut live experience, and a more experienced Year 10 band.
“Both our bands really rose to the occasion and delivered high energy sets that captivated the audience and demonstrated the strength of our school’s Performing Arts provision,” said Ben.
“Despite being among the youngest performers of the evening, the students showed confidence and creativity well beyond their years, earning admiration from fellow musicians, event organisers and audience members alike.
“In fact, staff from Telford College who helped to organise the gig were quick to praise the students, commenting on their impressive musicianship, stage presence and professionalism.”
Ben said the event also highlighted the importance of the Academy’s partnerships with local organisations, with collaborations with Telford College and Telford & Wrekin Music creating great opportunities for students to develop their skills and broaden their experiences.
