Make a meaningful difference every day as a Teaching Assistant at Queensway School, helping children and young people feel safe, understood and ready to learn.

A rewarding opportunity to support learning, independence, communication and inclusion across our specialist school

Queensway is a specialist school in Telford supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs and Communication and Interaction needs, including autism. We are a Trauma Informed Gold school with Advanced Autism Accreditation, where relationships, empathy and high expectations come together to help every pupil thrive.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and other professionals to help pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans access an ambitious curriculum and participate fully in school life. Supporting individuals and small groups, you will adapt explanations and resources, encourage communication and independence, and provide calm, consistent support during lessons, transitions, visits and unstructured times.

You will follow teachers’ planning and agreed programmes of support, observe pupils’ responses and provide clear feedback, and help create a safe, organised and nurturing learning environment. Using relational, trauma-aware, de-escalation and co-regulation approaches, you will help pupils develop confidence, resilience, positive learning behaviours and the skills they need for adulthood.

We are looking for a patient, reliable and resilient person who has experience of working effectively with children or young people and can build positive relationships while maintaining clear expectations and professional boundaries. You will be flexible, observant and committed to safeguarding, inclusion and teamwork. Experience of autism, SEMH, communication, complex or medical needs is welcomed, and we will support the successful candidate through a comprehensive induction and role-specific training.

What we can offer you

This is an exciting time to join Queensway. The school is entering a period of development, including new purpose-built SEMH facilities that will create further opportunities for pupils and staff. As part of the Learning Community Trust, you will join a collaborative family of primary, secondary and specialist academies united by a commitment to inclusion, professional growth and ensuring that no child is left behind.

You will benefit from a comprehensive induction, ongoing professional development and opportunities to progress across a growing Trust. We also offer generous Local Government Pension Scheme provision, wellbeing and counselling support, family-friendly policies, salary sacrifice schemes, free parking where available, and the chance to learn alongside experienced colleagues in specialist education.

To apply, please complete the Learning Community Trust application form available through the relevant vacancy on the Trust website, highlighting your relevant experience, skills and personal qualities. CVs will not be accepted. Completed applications should be emailed to the address provided in the role information pack by the closing date.
