Governance
Local governing bodies
Governors carry the trust vision, policies, and priorities forward, based on the specific qualities and community characteristics of each academy.
All of the
Learning Community Trust’s academies has its own local governing body.
At the Learning Community Trust, we are committed to local governance and therefore have established local governing bodies (LGBs) across all our academies. Each LGB is made up of a number of different governor types (trust-appointed, ex-offio, co-opted, staff and parent/carer) as determined by the constitution set out in the terms of reference.
The role of the LGBs is to provide both support and challenge, holding leaders to account for academic performance and quality of provision in their academy. The Learning Community Trust’s Scheme of Delegation sets out the roles of responsibilities of the LGBs within the wider governance framework of the trust.
Each LGB is chaired by a governor appointed by the trust to carry out this role and supported by the Head of Governance and Corporate Support. The meetings of the LGB take place four times per year (or more if required) and are also attended by an Learning Community Trust clerk and the appropriate Director of Education, as well as any academy staff members who have been invited to contribute to the discussion or present an agenda item.
LGBs are effectively committees of the trust board and therefore do not have their own committees; however, governor panels will be convened for matters such as appeals, exclusions and suspensions, and staff pay (as per our statutory responsibilities and our own policies).
