Burton Borough School in Newport was awash with colour, community spirit and compassion as students and staff took part in ‘Wear it Red Day’ in support of the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity.
The event – championed by the school’s Hawkstone House – saw the entire school add a splash of red to their school uniforms to back the life-saving local cause.
Principal Caroline Bedford said: “It was a wonderful example of our entire school community coming together.
“Seeing staff and students working side by side, supporting one another and uniting behind a truly lifesaving charity has been incredibly special. I am so proud of the enthusiasm, generosity and compassion shown by everyone involved.”
Staff said the atmosphere was buzzing from the moment students arrived at the gates with voluntary £1 donations, setting the tone for a day filled with creativity, generosity and teamwork.
“Tutor groups took part in themed quizzes, lessons incorporated special activities, and the school community enjoyed everything from a lively staff cake sale to heart‑themed treasure hunts, buskers performing around the site, red‑themed food options, prize tables and wristband sales,” Mrs Bedford added.
“Every corner of the school reflected the enthusiasm of students and staff who were determined to make a difference.”
Head of Hawkstone House Emily Giles said: “The creativity and energy from our students was fantastic to see. Every small contribution made a big difference, and Hawkstone showed what teamwork and heart really look like.”
The school also thanked a generous member of the public who made a surprise £50 donation to the cause helping to bring the impressive running total to just over £310.
Students also captured images of the day with contributions from students Roman Guthrie (Year 9), Darci Taylor (Year 10) and Jessica Briggs (Year 10).
They created photographs of students proudly wearing red accessories, the Pastoral Team, the Science Department, and Hawkstone House staff with Pip Machin (Shropshire fundraising executive for the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity).
Mrs Bedford said: “Burton Borough School would like to thank its students, staff, families and wider community for their outstanding support. Together, they have all created a truly RED‑tastic day – one that celebrated generosity, unity and the power of coming together for a lifesaving cause.”
