Parents of children attending Crudgington Primary School have given their valuable time, skills and resources to help improve the school’s facilities and give back to their local community.
Ian Crampsie, owner of ATD Painting and Decorating, whose son Arthur attends Reception class at Crudgington, spent his evenings plastering and decorating the Reception area, giving it a new lease of life for the Children’s return in September.
Ian, a small business owner, gave up his own time and resources, working in evenings across the last two weeks of the summer holidays to strip, plaster and decorate the classroom walls. The walls had previously been covered in textured material and were in desperate need of attention, when Ian stepped in to help. The classroom is now a lovely, fresh and bright space where teachers’ displays and children’s work can proudly be on display.
Russ Chirica, parent of Beatrice who attends year 1 at Crudgington, worked his magic on the school’s playground, transforming an overgrown planting space into an amazing, decked area.
Russ, Manager of Timberlink in Market Drayton, gave up his weekend to utterly transform the area, providing all the labour and materials to create a wonderful, raised decked area. Headteacher, Hannah Gharu, said she was absolutely thrilled when she saw the work Russ and his team had completed, it went over and above what we thought was going to be the finished result. Russ added so many finishing touches, like the fencing and panelling that runs across the sides and back.
Russ, and his team, completed the transformation in just one day. The decking area will now enable outside performances to take place, as well as an area for children to access at playtime. Mrs Gharu added, performing arts is a huge part of our curriculum at Crudugington and we love welcoming parents and the community to watch our performances. We have quite a small school hall, so we often have to restrict attendance to shows. Having this decking opens up the possibility of outdoor performances, with more space for families and the community to come and enjoy the children’s shows.
Mrs Gharu, the staff and children at Crudgington, along with leaders at the Learning Community Trust, can’t thank parents enough for their dedication, time and support; by working together we can really make a difference to the educational experiences of our children and the community.
